Debates of marking a moment of the beginning of life or when to recognize its natural end instead of honoring, cherishing and celebrating life are symptoms of a much deeper problem. Namely, it’s the problem of submitting, surrendering and supporting God’s plans and purposes instead of our own. Extenuating circumstances and the messiness of the fallen world in which we live will always produce challenges as we support life. However, the often greater challenge is submitting to God’s reign and in rule in our lives, the lives of others, and in the life of all that He created.
As we draw this Biblical issue forward this week, we are reminded that it extends far beyond the issue itself to the deeper heart issue. A reminder to return to God’s plans and purpose as stewards of all that He gives life, and a heart to seek His will for all. It also requires that we look at our own lives and the things we support, watch, and engage in so that we might keep our hearts clean and right before Him alone.
As we gather to pray, plan, and support life from conception to its natural end, we do so remembering we need God’s help to follow His leading and lordship. In so doing, we submit our lives to Him once more as we walk with Him and ask for His guidance for those commended to our care.
