Over the next several weeks we will be diving into what it means to find abiding joy in life. More specifically, we will explore the truth that joy comes only from God. Often through our own notions of what God desires from us, or how we perceive Him, we miss what He plans and purposes for us. This fall we will hear first hand from the lips of Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount how pursuing Him brings us closer to this seemingly elusive goal. When we learn to live as we were created, in right relationship to God and our neighbor, we discover joy.
We can find joy this side of eternity when we listen to, and put into practice, the teachings of Jesus. In so doing, we are transformed by the Holy Spirit as we find in Him everything we need. The messages of the world that continually blare at us are put into context. We see them for what they are, namely fleeting glimpses of something greater. We discover that happiness that comes from fleeting pleasures and accolades pale in comparison to living in humility, pursuing a virtuous life, and learning to lead a life that is ordered around God.
Starting this Sunday we will dive into such a pursuit. We will begin into our fall preaching series and our adults our Growth Groups. It is not too late to sign up for a group as a few more spots remain in most of them. Our Youth Group will also be studying this passage as well, while our children begin in Creation and learning attributes of God.
Discover joy that comes in following Jesus and pursuing the virtuous living He teaches. When we invest in this worthy calling, we become the men and women God intended us to be. Create margins in your life to join others in a group study and each Sunday in worship.
