The focus of Shaping Our Future Together is to seek God's vision for Saint Barnabas in the years ahead. The wisdom from the passage from Proverbs above, serves as a timeless reminder for us. At best, without a vision, there is not focus or direction. At worst, we all go about our own foci, leading to competing ideas and goals. Similarly, a vision set solely by the leader lives and dies with that leader. Consequently, the only lasting vision is one from the Lord that is discerned, charted, and owned by all.
Toward this end, your attendance at the workshop on Saturday, November 8, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. is vital. In this workshop, we will take counsel together with Canon McCrary to look at where we have been and where God calls us to go. It will be a highly interactive workshop. One in which we will receive teaching, break out into discussion groups, and come back as a whole to share with one another.
I realize that an entire day is difficult to give up, especially this time of year. However, this day serves as the template for where Saint Barnabas will be headed. And it is important that you are a part of it. We will look at the details of how to structure Saint Barnabas to further develop disciples of Jesus Christ and how we can then go out to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
We will look closely at how to grow our church, while still maintaining the community and relationships we value. We will explore and determine the areas to focus upon in the immediate future, and those down the road to further codify our church. We will mark the challenges we may encounter, and prayerfully plan how to overcome them. Most importantly, we will discover what is needed to further God's work in the world, as we chart the course for a healthy and thriving parish.
The Saturday workshop is a paramount event in the life of Saint Barnabas. Childcare will be provided for our younger members, so all can partake in the day. It is important that you block out the day to attend. Join me in paving the way by praying for this exciting and historic event. If you have any questions or concerns, please email the church office.
