In the weeks to come as we focus upon that part of our discipleship that we call evangelism, so many simple opportunities lay before us daily. One may be reaching out to new neighbors. Soon you will see a suggested ‘new neighbor list’ that you could use to compile an easy welcome bag for newcomers to the area. The church office can furnish some info that you could add to cookies or some treat and a warm smile as you greet those moving in.
I can attest from recent memory that you are never quite as open to folks coming to your door as when you first move to a new home. A warm welcome, offer to help navigate the community, and even conversation about the belonging you find at Saint Barnabas are well received while navigating your way through boxes and while everything is so new. Evangelism can come in many forms; the key is asking God to give us open eyes and hearts to see them.
Evangelism is a way of life and not just a conversation to lead others to the Lord. It comes in so many forms, as a result of our own walk with Jesus as we grow in His likeness and the fruit it bears in us. It becomes a natural part of the things we say, in pointing back to the Lord, the things we do, in where we spend our time, and the ways we live, in seeing our days as opportunities to help others find what we have discovered in relationship with Him. I’d encourage you to focus upon both these next several weeks in our Growth Groups as we explore and, by God’s grace, grow in this part of our discipleship. May God grant us the eyes to see and heart to be open to such every day opportunities that lay before us!
