Weekly we will explore two stories, or narratives about a characteristic of God. One will be false, and the other one true. Stories form our understanding. It is how we learn even from a young age, as our parents help us navigate and make sense of the world. Often experiences, those of others, or the stories we have received culturally also inform how we view God. Sadly, many fall short of the Truth as revealed in Jesus. These stories may not have formed us personally, but they do form the picture that so many have of God in the world around us.
In order to equip us and to better engage the world for Christ, we need to explore these narratives in order to dispel false beliefs of the character of God. Some ideas and understandings of God paint Him as the white haired judge on His throne casting judgment upon all. While others frame Him as selfish, seeking only His best interest, unloving and difficult to trust. Through our preaching series and weekly study, we will look at Jesus’ revelation of God through the pages of Scripture of His own stories or parables. It is in Him that we gain a true picture of God captured in the God-man, Jesus.
Our study goes beyond mere information and learning to practice. Each week there will be a devotional activity to assist in coming to experience and begin to live these truths. The devotional exercises are simple, yet powerful. And they help in our ongoing transformation into the character of Christ. I cannot express my excitement to begin this journey with you, and pray it bears much fruit in our lives. And if you haven’t signed up for a Growth Group yet, please see the times and days above and email the church office so you don’t miss out! See you Sunday, as we dive into this study together!
