On March 4, the day before our big launch, we are asking everyone to commit to pray. We have a 24 hour vigil sign up in the church, and the church will be open during the day for you. Would you fast from a television show, perhaps a lunch out or dinner out, or maybe an activity that day in order to be in prayer for one hour? You could even make it a family activity and possibly break it up between family members.
To assist you, I have listed some prayer points below:
- Pray for the weather that day, and God’s favor as we have much planned for the lawn
- Pray for neighbors by name, asking that they draw nearer to the Lord
- Pray for those you know who are disconnected from God and the Church, that they may find and be found by Him
- Pray for boldness for each person of our congregation to invite three people, leaving the results up to God
- Pray for schedules to be open that week, so people have time to come
- Pray for a holy excitement about what God will do
- Pray for our congregation to be willing and ready to receive all who come through our doors as they would receive Jesus Himself
- Pray for those serving, greeting, and helping that day
- Pray for Fr. Andrew and Fr. Greg and the sermon series
- Pray for connections and conversations that morning on March 5th
- Pray however else the Lord may lead you!
Below are collects from the Prayer book to assist you as well:
Almighty and eternal God,so draw our hearts to you,so guide our minds,so fill our imaginations,so control our wills, that we may be wholly yours, utterly dedicated to you; and then use us, we pray you, as you will, and always to your glory and the welfare of your people; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hardwood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we,reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.
O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you;bring the nations into your fold;pour out your Spirit upon all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in thy well-beloved Son,the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin,may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
O God of all the nations of the earth:Remember the multitudes who have been created in thine image but have not known the redeeming work of our Savior Jesus Christ; and grant that, by the prayers and labors of thy holy Church, they may be brought to know and worship you as thou hast been revealed in you Son; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.Amen.
Ever living God, whose will it is that all should come to you through your Son Jesus Christ: Inspire our witness to him, that all may know the power of his forgiveness and the hope of his resurrection; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, no wand for ever. Amen.
Almighty and everlasting God, from whom cometh every good and perfect gift: Send down upon our bishops, and other clergy, and upon the congregations committed to their charge, the healthful Spirit of your grace: and, that they may truly please you, pour upon them the continual dew of thy blessing. Grant this, O Lord, for the honor of our Advocate and Mediator, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who sets the solitary in families: We commend to thy continual care the homes in which your people dwell. Put far from them,we pray you, every root of bitterness, the desire of vainglory, and the pride of life. Fill them with faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, Godliness. Knit together inconstant affection those who, in holy wedlock, have been made one flesh. Turn the hearts of the parents to the children, and the hearts of the children to the parents; and so enkindle fervent charity among us all, that we may evermore be kindly affectioned one to another; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Almighty God, heavenly Father, you have blessed us with the joy and care of children: Give us calm strength and patient wisdom as we bring them up, that we may teach them to love whatever is just and true and good, following the example of our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
God our Father, you see your children growing up in an unsteady and confusing world: Show them that your ways give more life than the ways of the world, and that following you is better than chasing after selfish goals. Help them to take failure, not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance for a new start. Give them strength to hold their faith in you, and to keep alive their joy in your creation;through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Almighty God,whose Son had nowhere to lay his head: Grant that those who live alone may not be lonely in their solitude, but that, following in his steps, they may find fulfillment in loving you and their neighbors; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
