When we live according to God’s plan, we discover the peace and freedom He purposes for us. Jesus gives us the ‘how’ toward the end of the Sermon on Mount. Over the next several weeks we will journey through these final verses that teach us to order our finances around God instead of allowing our finances to order our lives. Have you ever thought of it in those terms? Rather than allowing our finances to be a means toward an end, at times they can become an end in themselves as we try to guard, protect, and manage them.
Our stewardship drive this year will center upon the simple truth that when we serve and seek God first, we truly find the order, freedom, and peace we desire. Join me as we Seek first the Kingdom of God in 2017, as we embark upon a journey to more fully lay hold of the full life Jesus desires to give us. As we learn from the wisest person to ever walk this earth, we receive the best counsel we ever will in this area of our lives!
As Michelle and I welcome our second daughter, we have been busy planning, saving, and ordering things so that both of our girls have all they need. Yet, I am mindful that as we explore options and plan for the future and security of our children that the best time spent is with the Lord and investing in His plans and purposes. He loves them more than anyone, and He alone holds their future. It is for that reason that we have chosen to return at least a tenth of all that the Lord entrusts us back to our church.
We firmly believe there is no better investment! The church is the place where they will find a place to make Godly friendships. The church will provide community and help them grow to know and love the Lord. The church is the lasting vehicle far beyond my days that will continue to guide and direct them as they navigate their way through life. We want the best for our children, but we know that only comes by seeking the Lord and orienting our lives around Him. We know that as we follow Him and ask for His guidance, we discover the truths of His Word coming to pass in our lives.
I want to invite you into this journey over the next several weeks to further pursue it as well. You are in my prayers as we pause to look at this area of our lives and how we can Seek first the Kingdom of God in 2017.
