I certainly don’t intend to add to your lists, but I do want to remind you that the only way to truly enjoy Christmas is by focusing upon its meaning. When we dwell upon the awesome reality that God entered His creation to redeem a world that turned from Him, it puts everything in perspective. It gives us the proper lens through which we see not only the Christmas season, but the world itself. We are reminded that when we turn toward Jesus each and every day, beholding Him as Savior of the world, we find redemption, purpose, and God’s limitless love for us.
Christmas rightly brings families and strangers together, and it is a fitting time to lavish love upon others as we give gifts. Yet our gifts of love serve as a reminder of the greatest gift the world has received, that of eternal life given through Jesus Christ. New life begins each day, with each new breath, as we grow to be transformed into the character of Christ by His Spirit.
So over the coming days, I would urge you to set a reminder, book an appointment, or block time in your planner to be with God. Reread aloud the Christmas story from Luke chapter 1 with fresh eyes. As you do, ask God to open your eyes afresh to the truth within it. Receive His love told in the master plan that was laid from the foundation of the world to bring you back into His loving arms. God is always calling our hearts home. Allow yours to be called more closely to His this season as a child of His family who is redeemed, forgiven, and loved.
